Marbella has all kinds of restaurants for all tastes and prices. International cuisine, Mexican, Arab, Italian, typical Spanish taverns, Chinese, etc. However, for lovers of Japanese food there are several restaurants that are a must visit.
This type of cuisine is based on the highest quality products, the use of traditional techniques and knowing how to combine it, in certain occasions, with modernity. Japanese cuisine is a culinary ritual and in Marbella there are several restaurants that are a must visit to enjoy a unique experience.
Nintai
Address: Street Ramón Gómez de la Serna, 18, B, 29602 Marbella, Málaga
Phone: +34 952 777 817
Mail: info@restaurantenintai.com
Nintai is yet another venture of renowned Michelin-starred chef Marcos Granda. Located in the heart of Marbella, has quickly become an essential destination for lovers of Japanese cuisine. This restaurant, which has gained prestige for its dedication to authenticity and quality, offers a dining experience that transcends the ordinary.
The premises, with pure lines and large windows, is presented with several private rooms and a large sushi bar (12 seats) where we see the “itamae” (the cook in front of the table) work, create and improvise. Here everything induces calm, the ideal state to taste an offer based on two tasting menus, of different lengths, which vary depending on the best product of the day: Zen (only working days at noon) and ENSō (you will loved the Shiizakana pass, which includes a cut of Wagyu A5).
It surprises with desserts for a Japanese restaurant, offers one of the best sake menus in Spain and, at many times, presents diners with large pieces of tuna that they cut before their eyes.
Takumi
Address: Calle Gregorio Marañón, 4, Marbella
Phone: +34 952 770 839
Mail: marbella@restaurantetakumi.com
Takumi stands out as one of the most prestigious Japanese restaurants on the Costa del Sol. This establishment, run by chefs Toshio Tsutsui and Alvaro Arbeloa, combines the authenticity of Japanese cuisine with a contemporary touch.
Takumi is characterized by its cuisine that transgresses the purely Japanese without losing its essence and in which the product has been gaining more and more prominence. Takumi’ s menu is classically structured and covers the main cooking techniques of Japanese cuisine: hot and cold starters, sashimi, sushi, hot cuisine, wok, tepan yaki and tempura. In addition, there are some dishes that can be ordered to order. We are talking about delicacies such as ramen noodle soup or sukiyaki. But, undoubtedly, the best option is to let yourself be carried away by the Omakase menu and allow the masters to arrange the dishes as they please.
In this regard, make sure that the moriawase sashimi with sugata – the master’s selection – is always present. In addition to offering precisely cut fish of exultant freshness, it must be the most beautifully presented sashimi dish in this country. We can continue with delicacies such as oyster tempura with ponzu sauce, akami tartar and caviar or shiso leaf tempura with shrimp tartar and caviar to end in a real festival of sushi, the protagonist of this house, especially its nigiris.
It would be a good idea to delve into Takumi’s hot cuisine, which hides some truly remarkable dishes. For starters, those stupendous wagyu niku gyozas that Arbeloa embroiders and that are the hallmark of the menu. Also some yasai yakisoba sautéed with vegetables, a duck teppan yaki, a shrimp and vegetable tempura or that comforting udon soup with fried shrimp and a memorable dashi.

Renante Barroga is a seasoned chef who has worked in the country’s top restaurants and has forged his career on a continuous apprenticeship, combining hard work and skill, drinking from tradition and the best masters.
With Genji Sushibar, this sushiman has opted for a gastronomic proposal that respects the origin of this millenary cuisine to which, however, he has managed to stamp his own distinctive seal. That is why the establishment has become one of the most popular places for lovers of Japanese cuisine in Marbella.
Together with his wife Geraldine Icasiano, Barroga has opted for an honest establishment, stripped of artifice and committed to quality.
Based on this in Genji Sushi Bar only work with the best raw material, such as tuna from Barbate or Norwegian salmon, which are prepared in traditional dishes such as makis, niguiris, rolls or sashimis, among others. They also offer other premium products such as sea bream, scallops or eel. All this prepared at the moment with mastery before the eyes of customers who want to enjoy the show both at the bar, which has space for 6 or 7 diners, and at the tables of the premises.
Among its culinary proposals there is also room for more creative pieces, such as flambéed or tempura rolls.
In addition, Genji Sushi Bar has more innovative dishes that drink from fusion cuisine, such as lemon fish tiradito with yuzu and cilantro, seasoned fried chicken, gyozas, tartar or pan bao with various fillings.
They also work according to the market with special products, such as authentic A5 grade Japanese black wagyu.
